The work

What is Core Energetics?

A body-centered approach that integrates psychology, body awareness, energy work, and spirituality — recognizing that lasting transformation involves the whole person.

Core Energetics is based on the idea that we all develop ways of protecting ourselves from emotional pain. These strategies may once have helped us survive, but over time they can leave us feeling disconnected — from our bodies, our emotions, our relationships, and our deeper sense of aliveness.

Rather than trying to eliminate these protective parts, we learn to approach them with curiosity and compassion. Through awareness, movement, breath, dialogue, and emotional experience, we gradually rediscover the wholeness that has been present all along.

Developed by John Pierrakos, Core Energetics recognizes that lasting transformation involves the whole person — mind, body, emotions, will, and spirit — not just our thoughts or behaviours.

Questions people often bring

Core Energetics can be helpful if you feel stuck in some area of your life — physically, emotionally, relationally, professionally, or spiritually. Whether it's chronic tension, fatigue and anxiety, difficulty processing emotions, repeating relationship patterns, a sense of professional misalignment, or a deeper longing for meaning and direction — the work begins with what is present right now in your body and lived experience.

While Core Energetics recognizes and values the mental aspect of our being, it also understands that we are not just brains on a stick. Rather than working only through insight, we engage the body through breath, movement, grounding, and emotional expression. Often, cognitive understanding alone isn't enough — we also need to experience change in our bodies.

Core Energetics recognizes that human beings have physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions. For some people, the spiritual aspect of this work is central. For others, it isn't. There is no need to adopt any particular belief system. My role is to meet you where you are, and together we'll work with the dimensions of your experience that feel meaningful and relevant to you.

No, not in the traditional sense. I practice Core Energetics as a body-based, present-moment inquiry. I also start from the standpoint that we are already whole and free. The work is not about searching for ways to modify ourselves or “resolve” something from the past, but rather recovering the innate wisdom that we have forgotten.

Emotions are not obstacles to overcome; they are intelligent signals that tell us something about our experience. When emotions are suppressed or avoided, they often remain held in the body and continue to shape our thoughts, relationships, and behaviour. Learning to listen to them with curiosity rather than fear can become a doorway to greater freedom.

We typically begin with grounding exercises that involve tuning into respiration and emotions. From this place of connection, I invite the client to state an intention for what they'd like to explore. We then take time to explore and unpack this through movement, sound, and body awareness. I use certain tools — a foam cube, punching bag, and roller — to help clients feel the points in their bodies where they are experiencing emotions. Every session is different: some are quiet and reflective, others are more active and expressive. Together, we'll work at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for you.

Absolutely not. Core Energetics is sometimes associated with powerful emotional expression, but often the biggest understandings come from small, quiet movements. What matters is being tuned into and receptive to the messages your emotions are carrying. We'll always work at a pace that respects your nervous system and your readiness.
